Kyburg and agriculture

The canton of Zurich is not only city. Around 41 percent of the area is used for agriculture, that is for fields, meadows and pastures. About 30 percent is forest, and almost a quarter is settlement area with houses, roads and factories. The rest is mainly lakes, rivers and wetlands. There are many farms above all in the Weinland in the north and in the Zurich Oberland.

The best-known castle in the canton is Kyburg. It stands on a hill above the Töss, near Winterthur. Kyburg is around 1000 years old and is a museum today. Other famous castles are in other cantons: Chillon in Vaud, Hallwyl in Aargau and Gruyères in Fribourg.
